Head Coach

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Head Diving Coach to join Shamrock Diving Club. The Diving Coach will play a crucial role in developing individual performance goals and plans for each diver and submitting monthly lesson plans for both dryland and pool diving time.

Essential Criteria:

  • Level 2 Coaching Certificate for Diving or recognized international equivalent

  • Valid Swim Ireland / Sport Ireland safeguarding level 1 certificate (within 3 years)

  • Valid vetting through the An Garda Síochána National Vetting Bureau via Shamrock Diving Club / Swim Ireland (within 3 years)

  • Proven track record of coaching divers to Irish Open Age Group Championships or international equivalent

  • Recognised First Aid qualification

  • Knowledge of Health and Safety regulations in relation to Diving and Dry Dive

Role Description: The Head Diving Coach will support Shamrock Diving Club in building a dynamic and competitive diving program for our members. The coach will prepare thorough practice and competition plans, encourage diver participation, establish rapport, and motivate athletes to achieve their maximum potential.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform a management role and support, organise and motivate all coaching staff to ensure consistent high standards of coaching.

  • Develop and implement individual performance goals and plans for each diver.

  • Submit monthly lesson plans for both dryland and pool diving time to the committee.

  • Advise and work in conjunction with the club committee to create and review a long-term strategic plan for competitive diving, ensuring the plan is progressive, sustainable, and follows the principles of long-term athlete development (LTAD).

  • Work with the committee to develop an effective talent ID programme.

  • Liaise with Swim Ireland and other key stakeholders as required (e.g. SIDAC).

  • Optimise the pool/dryland time ensuring the most effective use of the facilities.

  • Produce an annual competition/training camp program that includes and develops all competitive club members and supports the Swim Ireland Domestic Competition Framework.

  • Be responsible for the selection of athletes and/or teams for competitions and training camps.

  • Advise and work in conjunction with the club committee on the planning and logistics of competitions and training camps.

  • Ensure you are well briefed about any special needs of athletes involved in competitions or training camps, including; fitness levels, medical conditions, physical impairments, or disabilities.

  • Be responsible for selecting athletes' dive lists for competition, submitting dive sheets, and delegating to assistant coaches or the club committee, where appropriate.

  • Take a lead role in setting competition goals and targets, and clearly communicate these to athletes, parents, and committee members.

  • Attend competitions and training camps, and in cases where it is not possible to attend, make recommendations to the club committee for suitable replacement coach or coaches.

  • Coach athletes at competitions and undertake judging duties at competitions as required by event organizers.

  • Provide suitable and relevant feedback on competition performance to athletes, parents, and committee members where appropriate.

  • Advise and work in conjunction with the club committee to create and review a program of athlete/parent education sessions covering a range of diving-related topics and other performance-related challenges around nutrition, psychology, anti-doping, and lifestyle choices.

  • Attend club committee meetings and provide regular updates on the annual training and competition plan, athlete/team selections, athletes' competition goals & targets.

  • At all times, follow the Swim Ireland’s safeguarding policy.

  • Comply with all relevant Swim Ireland and club policies.

  • Keep up to date with worldwide diving developments and develop good relationships with other dive clubs.

  • Ensure that all qualifications are kept up to date and that continuous professional development opportunities are availed of.

Hours: 12-13 hours per week, TBC.
